Meet Poppy
In Foster Care Hi there, my name is Poppy! I'm a pint sized cutie who is ready to find her forever home. I'm a 7 year old, spayed female Chihuahua who weighs in at just 4 pounds. I’m a very sweet but shy little dog. It takes me a little bit of time to warm up to a new person but I become very attached people who show me love and kindness. I love to always be near or on a person and I will try to follow you everywhere. I have met several dogs and a couple cats but I’ve been mostly neutral towards the; I prefer the company of lovely humans. I’m the princess who demands all of your attention and I don’t always appreciate sharing that attention. Because of this, I will most likely do best as the only dog in the home, or with mellower dogs my size. I am very food motivated but any potential adopter will have to be careful with what food I can eat since I only have 1 tooth! I am currently in foster care and my foster family says that I am doing great with kennel training and I’m learning to go to the bathroom outside. I am looking for a family that is patient and loving, ideally without very small children, as I can get overwhelmed sometimes. I know that once we meet, we will fall in love! Since I’m not at the adoption center, you can make arrangements to meet me by emailing [email protected] You may also submit your fully completed Adoption Profile Form to [email protected] and a staff member will call you to conduct a phone interview before making an appointment to meet me in person. You must be 18 or older to submit a profile. Application: https://phs-spca.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/04/AdoptionProfiles_dog2023_fillin.pdf *The application may not work on mobile devices and iPads. Please call (650) 340-7022 for assistance.
Adoption Process
When a potential adopter comes into the shelter and sees an animal he or she is interested in adopting, we ask the potential adopter to first complete an Adoption Profile. Then, one of our knowledgeable customer service representatives brings the adopter and animal together in one of our Get Acquainted Rooms. There they have a quiet, private space to get to know each other better. During the visit, the customer service representative may discuss the following:
past experiences with animals and current animals in the home
lifestyle, including work schedule and the kinds of activities they plan to do with their companion animal
housing situation - own or rent, size of yard, etc.
In order to make the best match possible for a family and home, we suggest potential adopters bring along all members of the household to meet the new companion animal and bring their current dog(s) to meet a potential dog. Adopters must also be 18 or older.
