Greater California German Shepherd Rescue

Greater California German Shepherd Rescue is a 501(c)(3) public charity non-profit. We are an all-volunteer group of German Shepherd lovers dedicated to rescuing German Shepherd Dogs from at-risk and unacceptable situations and finding them permanent, loving homes with qualified owners. We serve the communities surrounding Modesto, Merced, Greater Sacramento, and South Lake Tahoe, and occasionally parts of the North and East SF Bay area. Except for a portion of Nevada around Lake Tahoe, we don't adopt dogs out of state and rarely adopt out of our area. There are too many other German Shepherds in need of good homes in the other areas.

Meet Louie

Adoption Fee:  $300.00 Louie is a large, Sable boy, about 4 years old. He was picked up as a stray, and his owner failed to reclaim him from a local shelter. Louie was a staff favorite during his time at the shelter, and was described as a "big happy boy". Louie can be a little zealous when first coming out of the kennel and needs to be reminded that jumping up with excitement is not appropriate. He can be a bit too excited when meeting other dogs, as most don't appreciate a dog, especially of his size, rushing into their personal space. Louie appears to be housebroken, and likes the safety of his kennel and crate. He sleeps quietly through the night, and retreats to his crate often. New situations can cause him to slink to the ground, and cautiously proceed. He will look to his human for direction and will recover nicely. Louie will gladly put his huge head in your lap for attention, and loves belly rubs. He doesn't appear to have much prey drive, but has not been observed with cats or small critters.  Louie is looking for a home with a family that will continue with his socialization and basic obedience training.
