Meet APOLLO

Apollo came to us from his previous family, and is reported to be a Border Collie Mix, although we are not sure what he may be mixed with. Apollo is approximately 2 years old. In his previous home, Apollo was indoor/outdoor, crate-trained, and had a history of enjoying outings to parks, walks on a leash, and has lived with both children and cats successfully. Apollo recently went for a 3.3 mile hike with a volunteer, who reported Apollo enjoyed his time riding in a car, and spent lots of time taking in all the new smells. Apollo was curious and interested in dogs he met on his hike, and curious about bikes, as well. He would likely benefit from positive-reinforcement training to bond with his new family, continue to develop his leash skills, and use his incredible intelligence to learn new skills. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
