Doggie Protective Services

We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) animal rescue organization based in So. CA who has established chapters outside of the area to attempt to place more of the dogs that are dying in the shelters in So. CA. Many areas do not have small breed dogs and we transport and meet with potential adopters because So. CA is deluged in small breed dogs.

Meet Jack

Adoption fee: $650 Jack is a 7 year old Cockapoo who was adopted from our rescue three years ago and recently returned when his owners were moving and unable to take him with them. He has a non-shedding coat that makes him an option for those with allergies or who just do not want to deal with cleaning up fur. He weighs about 20-22 lbs. Jack has been through a lot of transition recently and will need a patient home that will support him as he settles in. Jack is friendly with people and has no problem meeting strangers. He actively seeks attention and affection. He also has plenty of energy and would be a great walking buddy for those looking to up their exercise and get those steps in! Jack is currently living with and has met many dogs while back with us the last couple of weeks. We were told that he didn't get along with dogs and well, we disproved that theory. Unfortunately when people return a dog, they often create reasons that then harm the dog rather than being honest about the real issues at hand. Jack seems to do just fine with any of the dogs he's met or lived with and is currently living with in our rescue. Jack has what appears to be generalized anxiety. He is going to appear anxious probably the first week in his new home. He will settle down but all of the change he has had has been so disruptive for him. Jack's owners actually turned him into the shelter and it took several to get him out of the shelter and then transition to a new foster home has unfortunately turned his world upside down. We believe once he is in a steady home, a lot of the anxiety we are seeing will dissipate as it has in his foster home once he settled in. Jack is best suited to a home that has had recent prior dog experience. We would like his next home to be his final forever home, so we will be looking for someone who is dedicated to doing any training that Jack may need to become his best self. He is an option for kids over the age of 6.

Adoption Process
We require an application from anyone who is interested in adopting. Then we require a phone interview, followed by a meeting in person. Then if the animal is a match, we have a contract and our adoption fee which is $400.
