Meet Myrtle

Hi, I’m Myrtle—a gentle, soulful, plush coat German Shepherd with a heart that’s just starting to bloom. No one really knows how old I am, but I’m learning that age doesn’t matter nearly as much as feeling safe, loved, and connected. When I first arrived, I was pretty cautious. If another dog even looked at me sideways, I’d quietly back away. But my foster family believed in me—they gave me space, encouragement, and a little confidence boost. Now? I’m feeling brave, and even a little playful! I love being around other dogs, especially after I’ve had a chance to assess them in my own careful way. Once I know it’s safe, I’ll happily engage. I’m crate trained, housebroken, and know my basic commands: sit, down, wait, come, and stay. I don’t dig, and I don’t chew things I’m not supposed to. Leash walking is still a work in progress, but I’m eager to learn—especially if treats are involved! I’m also still getting used to riding in the car, but like everything else, I’m taking it one step at a time. My energy is moderate, but I might just be coming out of my shell. I love being right by your side, whether we’re training, walking, or just hanging out. I’m affectionate, mellow, and curious about the world. I’m also a little outgoing—sometimes I get so excited to meet new people that I jump up to say hi (I’m working on that!). My foster family says I’m a responsive, gentle companion who will form a deep bond with someone willing to spend time with me. If you’re looking for a loyal friend who will walk beside you through life (literally and figuratively), I might be your girl. Let’s get to know each other. I’ll be the one quietly watching, tail wagging, ready to trust again. Myrtle is a level 3 dog.

Adoption Process
Our adoption process is designed to help you and the right dog find each other. Our goal is to place each dog into a permanent, safe, and loving home. For the safety of small children and their families and the well being of younger dogs, we will only adopt dogs 4 years and older to families with children under the age of 7. To adopt a German Shepherd Dog from us, you must: 1. Live in Northern California. 2. Complete an Adoption Questionnaire, either online, or hard-copy (pdf format). If you do not own your home, your landlord must provide the completed Landlord Permission Agreement(pdf format). 3. Be interviewed by an adoption counselor. 4. Allow a home visit conducted by a GSRNC adoption counselor. 5. Choose, and be chosen by, the right dog. 6. With our approval, sign our Adoption Agreement, and pay the associated adoption fee. 7. At the time of adoption we also collect a deposit which is refunded after completion of two training sessions.
