Meet Smitty

Foster or forever home wanted for sweet puppy Smitty. Smitty arrived at the shelter as a stray on May 23rd with a left leg injury. The shelter was concerned it was a fracture, so he was sent to a private vet for x-rays. Sure enough, he has a fracture that will require orthopedic surgery.  Since Smitty was in a shelter we don't ordinarily see pleas from, we just learned about him on Thursday, June 5th. Fortunately, a networker reached out to us directly to see if we could help him because his last day to exit the shelter was by 4 PM on June 6th! We got Smitty to the surgeon by 5:00 on 6/5 so they could perform surgery the following morning. Sadly, he was in the beginning stages of kennel cough so the surgery was a no go. He is currently hospitalized in ISO and hopefully he is declared healthy very soon so we can get his leg addressed before there is further injury to it. What we can tell you about Smitty so far is, he is very sweet and affectionate. He seems to know basic commands like sit and stay. He was a shelter favorite and they were so elated Labradors and Friends agreed to help him.
