Meet Copper

Dogs don't come cuter than the sweet boy, Copper! At about 9 months old, Copper is a happy-go-lucky puppy that loves nothing more than being with his favorite people and going for adventures. He has the perfect mix of stay-at-home cuddle buddy and "let's go play" energy and would be a great addition to an active family looking for a canine companion to join them for fun activities. Copper weighs about 52 lbs now, and will likely grow a little more before he reaches his adult weight.  Copper loves to be the center of attention and he absolutely loves making new friends wherever he goes, both human and dog! He is a true social butterfly that knows no strangers and is eager to meet new people. He can sometimes get a little too excited and will jump up on people, so he needs a family committed to helping him continue his basic manners training and be the best boy he can be. Copper came to us when he was brought into a local vet clinic after being hit by a car. Unfortunately, his current owners couldn't afford his care so he was surrendered to the clinic. Through our partnership with the UC Davis Fracture Program, we were able to save Copper and get him the care he needed to get back to tip-top shape. After a corrective surgery and some physical therapy, Copper is all ready to find his fur-ever family and start his new life! Copper is an A+ student that loves to learn new things. He has learned how to sit and will do just about anything to earn a tasty treat. Due to his smarts, Copper can get bored if left alone for too long, so his new family will need to be ready to provide him with lots of activities and enrichment throughout the day. Copper is house-trained and does well being left in a crate overnight and during the day while his foster parents are away.  Copper can get excited when he sees dogs he wants to meet on walks and will sometimes bark to try and go say hi. This behavior can easily be worked on with constant positive reinforcement training, but Copper will need a family willing to dedicate time to continue his training and help him succeed. We have local trainers we can recommend to help with Copper's reactivity. Copper has done well with other large dogs, and would love another playful pup in his new home so he always has a buddy to play with. Copper has done well living with dog-savvy cats with a slow introduction and proper supervision. We haven't seen Copper with kids, but we think he could be a great addition to a family with kids 10 years and older. Copper is the epitome of a good boy and he can't wait to meet you! If you think you can be his perfect match, submit an adoption application today!     Apply to adopt here! https://form.jotform.com/52017002013129/  Applications are also available on the website  (www.yolospca.org)  It can take up to 3-5 business days to hear back once you have submitted an application. The Yolo County SPCA is a private, not-for-profit, foster home-based animal rescue organization and does not have a shelter. All our animals awaiting adoption are in foster homes. Our adoption fees help us cover the cost of spay/neuter surgery, microchip and registration, and rabies vaccination (if over 4 months of age at intake or spay/neuter) for all animals. Dogs are tested for heartworm and started on preventatives and given a DAPP vaccination. Adult dogs are up to date on their vaccinations prior to adoption. Puppies will be current on the vaccinations appropriate to their age. The adopter is responsible for additional vaccinations as necessary after the adoption. For more information about an animal, please email [email protected]. For more general questions, please see our website at www.yolospca.org.

Adoption Process
We have an application that needs to be completed. We need to interview all members of the household that are considering adopting the pet. We also need to verify if renting that any rental deposits have been satisfied.
