Adopt-A-Stray

We are a few dedicated individuals who have formed Adopt-A-Stray in order to save many adoptable pets that would otherwise be euthanized in the shelters in our area. We routinely pull dogs and cats from the euthanasia list, as well as take in strays and owner surrenders as space allows.

Meet Bernadette *adoption pending

Bernadette is a little sweet heart that was found as a stray about 6 weeks ago. Sadly, Bernie was full of milk but no puppies could be found. We don't know how she ended up on the streets, but we are thankful that we were able to rescue her before something bad happened. Bernie is friendly and full of love. She was clearly someone's pet at some point. She is completely house trained. She wants to be right with her people at all times, which is understandable. This may resolve once she feels more secure. We think she is afraid of being separated from her people because the last time that happened, she ended up on the street. When we got her, she was very matted and needed to be shaved. Her hair is still short but is growing in nicely. The last photo shows how her face looks when her coat is grown out. Bernie is great with other dogs and cats, and she likes kids as well. Her only issue is that she gets nervous when she is picked up. But she will ask to be lifted up onto furniture and does fine as long as she is asking for it. It just has to be on her terms. She LOVES to snuggle in bed or on the sofa with her foster family. She is very affectionate and sweet. Bernadette weighs about 8 lbs and is estimated to be about 4 years old. We believe she is a maltese/poodle mix. She sheds very little, if any. She walks well on leash and is not a runner, so a fenced yard is not necessary. This makes it an even bigger mystery as to how she ended up on the streets all alone. We feel that it is a strong possibility she was dumped after she had puppies, but we will probably never know her full story. And that's ok, because we are much more interested in her future than in her past. She is going to make a wonderful companion for someone! Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations.
