New Rattitude, Inc.

New Rattitude is a national, all-volunteer non-profit rescue/adoption agency whose mission is to rescue Rat Terriers (and mixes that are predominantly Rat Terrier) from imminent death at animal shelters, the streets, abusive/neglectful homes, or from owners who can no longer keep a dog, and to rehome the dogs into new and permanent, screened and approved adoptive homes. Each dog rescued is cared for in a safe and nurturing foster care environment where he or she receives appropriate medical care, a high quality diet, training and socialization. To achieve these ends, the organization is involved with transportation, volunteer recruiting and training, mentoring, fund-raising, and establishing and maintaining other programs deemed helpful to achieving the mission of rescuing and re-homing Rat Terriers.

Meet Lucy Lu (AZ)

Lucy Lu enjoyed much love in her previous home. Maybe a bit too much was in the form of food, for this sweet 10- to 11-year-old rat terrier arrived at her New Rattitude foster home very much over her ideal weight of about 15 lbs. Lucy is too embarrassed to tell us what the scales currently say, but she's proud that she has already shed 1.6 lbs. with copious walks and playtime with her canine foster brother, as well as feedings carefully measured by her foster mom. Lucy needs her adopter to commit to helping her complete her journey to good health.   Before coming to NR, Lucy lived with one person and a cat, so she's shy around new people, barking at them and then avoiding them. If left alone, she'll approach when she's ready; people ignoring this advice will likely be growled at. Lucy still gets along with cats and has learned a lot about living with other dogs. She enjoys playing with them and with toys. You should see her fine game of tug-of-war! She occasionally gets growly and tries to lay claim to certain toys or space, but her foster mom has taught her about sharing by permitting access to these cherished resources only when her behavior is appropriate. Lucy would be fine as an only dog or as a member of a small group of easy-going canine friends.   Lucy is reliably house-trained as long as you take her out or provide access to a dog door. She's also crate trained and will sleep in her crate at night and for naps. However, she would LOVE to sleep in your bed. She's such an affectionate pup and an easy keeper, how could you possibly say no? You can see more photos of Lucy at  https://imageevent.com/newrattitude/lucylu .
