Humane Society of Washington County, TN

The Appalachian Highlands Humane Society promotes Spay/Neuter and we assist individuals who cannot afford that for their pet. We also pull animals from our local animal shelter and place them in foster care, give them any medical attention they need, spay/neuter prior to adoptions. We also, review craigslist on a daily basis and contact individuals listing "free" puppies, dogs, cats and kittens in an effort to get them to surrender to us and attempt to educate these individuals about spay/neuter and the danger of listing free animals. Along with our foster animals, we take animals currently residing in our local shelter to adoption events. We have a goal and are working with our Animal Control Board/local shelter to become a no-kill community.

Meet Winston

***FIV POSITIVE CAT-PLEASE READ*** Winston showed up at my doorstep in February. He has been a sweetheart since day one. Unfortunately, about a month ago, was bitten by the dog next door. At that point, I brought him inside. He is a gentle boy; he even let me give him a bath with no problem. He was dirty, but had no fleas, which makes me think he was probably dumped at some point. He's been neutered and is fully vaccinated. He is on flea prevention and was dewormed preventatively.  Unfortunately, he is FIV positive. However, there are many studies now that prove FIV is not nearly as easily spreadable as once thought.    Winston is super lovable, loves to be pet. Chin scratches are his favorite and loves to be brushed. He will nudge you and look for love as long as you let him. He will make somebody an extraordinary companion who's willing to give him the chance.  He loves to stick his tongue out which is the cutest! He also got along fine with the other outdoor cats and animals. He didn't seem to care about any of them. He's just an all-around great boy!  This is a Courtesy Listing only.  Postings are provided as a courtesy by HSWC to guardians re-homing their pets. The descriptions and photographs of this animal are provided by the animal’s guardian; the animal has not been evaluated by HSWC and is not an HSWC animal. Adoption processes and fees are at the sole discretion of the pet’s guardian. HSWC makes no claims as to the health or temperament of these pets and cannot be held liable for any outcomes or damages resulting from adoption.

Adoption Process
$80.00 for cats and kittens, dogs range from $135.00 to $200.00. We have adoption applications and contracts for potential adopters to complete. Vet references are checked and home visits on some animals are required.
