Thundering Paws Animal Sanctuary

We are a companion animal rescue group and sanctuary. Our animals come from many places. About 75% are adoptable - we find them homes. Others are feral (wild) cats who have had no positive contact with humans. They, too, have good lives at Thundering Paws. Our foster home network helps us care for many more animals than can stay at the sanctuary. Some animals arrive fearful and cannot be adopted until they learn what it's like to be touched by gentle hands. Others need time to recover from injuries or illness before they go to their new homes. While spay/neuter is the only permanent solution to the overpopulation of companion animals, Thundering Paws wants animals who are already born to have full, happy lives. That is why we are a no-kill facility. We are a 501(c)(3) organization. All donations to Thundering Paws are tax deductible. We rely on our volunteers and generous donors to keep us going.

Meet Elizabeth

Meet Elizabeth, a kitty with a heart of gold hidden underneath her particular and mysterious exterior. This tortoiseshell beauty is a bit of a tough nut to crack, but those who possess a deep understanding of cats and can offer her time, consistency and patience will be rewarded beyond measure with affection and loyalty.  During her warming-up phase, Elizabeth has her guard up. She will approach people, but she can become reactive quickly if she feels overwhelmed . What encourages her the most is  someone who can spend as much time as possible around her just hanging out while letting her be and introducing touch slowly and mindfully. Her independent side will be more evident during this phase, as she prefers to observe her surroundings as she builds trust and settles in. Once Elizabeth is given ample time to trust and lets her guard down, she turns into a completely different kitty and her reactive responses will fade. She becomes a constant attention seeker that positively responds to touch -  always right at your feet, sometimes on top of them, following you around like a little shadow. She’ll even flop down right in front of you demanding pets, and her sweet and goofy personality will shine brightly. At any stage, Elizabeth simply enjoys existing within a home that she can make her own. She loves to sit and watch the world through a window and also feel like she’s a part of the family activities. She is generally laid back and enjoys lounging around and being with her people over playing with toys.  Elizabeth would thrive in a medium to low-energy home with a cat savvy family with previous cat experience that understands her need for time to blossom.  A home without young children is preferred, as this particular lady makes her own rules and enforces them readily, but older kids who respect her space and boundaries could coexist harmoniously. She might prefer to be the queen of the castle, but she coexists with other cats in her foster home and would be great with an accepting companion, watching the world go by from their shared windowsill. With patience and trust, Elizabeth blossoms into the most loyal and loving kitty, always by your side and infusing your life with boundless love and life.

Adoption Process
We ask potential adopters to fill out an application, which we review. We prefer to have the name and contact information for a current or former veterinarian. We typically deliver the adopted pet(s) to the adopter's home, at which time a contract is signed. We ask for a $100 adoption donation, which includes spay/neuter, current vaccinations, FIV and feline leukemia testing for cats, heartworm testing for dogs, and all veterinary records. If for any reason an adoption does not work out, we take the animal back at any time during his or her life. Until the adopter and Thundering Paws decide together that the adoption is final, we will refund the adoption donation.
