Thundering Paws Animal Sanctuary

We are a companion animal rescue group and sanctuary. Our animals come from many places. About 75% are adoptable - we find them homes. Others are feral (wild) cats who have had no positive contact with humans. They, too, have good lives at Thundering Paws. Our foster home network helps us care for many more animals than can stay at the sanctuary. Some animals arrive fearful and cannot be adopted until they learn what it's like to be touched by gentle hands. Others need time to recover from injuries or illness before they go to their new homes. While spay/neuter is the only permanent solution to the overpopulation of companion animals, Thundering Paws wants animals who are already born to have full, happy lives. That is why we are a no-kill facility. We are a 501(c)(3) organization. All donations to Thundering Paws are tax deductible. We rely on our volunteers and generous donors to keep us going.

Meet Calypso

Meet Calypso, a magnificent calico with a tiny spot on her nose and a presence you can’t help but notice. This sweet gal is quite large, but she has a heart equally as large to match. And her appetite is just the same size. She’ll need a human with excellent ability to help her with portion control at mealtime.    Calypso exudes affection and high confidence. Approach her for cuddles, and you'll experience her coziness. When she’s done with pets, she’ll let you know with a gentle swat.    Calypso’s interactive nature shines through during playtime, particularly with soft toys, soft balls, and crinkle stuffies. When the sun sets, you'll find her favorite sleeping spots on the back of the couch, the bed, or the floor, as she enjoys a nice snooze. Calypso is a relatively quiet cat and doesn't meow much, but her food motivation is undeniable.   Calypso has had positive interactions with cats, especially older kittens in her foster home. Since she likes to be in charge, she can clash with other cats that have equally big personalities or preferences. More laid back and submissive cats that she can lead are Calypso’s cup of tea. Calypso can be quite social, and she seems to have a preference for women. Once she gets to know you, her initial shyness transforms into confidence and affection.    Calypso's complex personality suggests she would thrive as the sole kitty in a home where she can be the queen, admired and loved by her human family. She would do best in a home without kids due to her particular nature, but could do alright in homes with older teens who can appreciate her unpredictable charm. If you’re looking for a feline monarch to rule the roost with her strong yet sweet personality, Calypso is just the gal for you.

Adoption Process
We ask potential adopters to fill out an application, which we review. We prefer to have the name and contact information for a current or former veterinarian. We typically deliver the adopted pet(s) to the adopter's home, at which time a contract is signed. We ask for a $100 adoption donation, which includes spay/neuter, current vaccinations, FIV and feline leukemia testing for cats, heartworm testing for dogs, and all veterinary records. If for any reason an adoption does not work out, we take the animal back at any time during his or her life. Until the adopter and Thundering Paws decide together that the adoption is final, we will refund the adoption donation.
