Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition, Inc.

Our rescue group was formed in December 2007, but all our Board Members have had extensive experience rescuing and working with abandoned animals. We often work with other rescue organizations to find appropriate and safe foster and adoptive homes for our pet clients. We regularly go to areas with abandoned animals and collect them. The animals are taken to a licensed veterinarian examined, treated and spayed or neutered. Every effort is made to work with the animal and our foster and adoptive families to find a suitable forever home. For those animals who are truly wild and feral, we release the animal in a safe and secure location after it has recovered from its medical treatment. We also work with certified wildlife rehabilitators to rescue injured and orphaned wildlife. Our organization is focused on improving the welfare of the abandoned animals in need of help in Brooklyn. In furthering that goal, our resources are focused on the animals. Aside from a few minimal overhead costs such as our website and phone services, our entire budget is spent on animal care such as medical and food costs.

Meet Bobbi & Manta

Bobbi and Manta Marcy are bonded kitten friends, who while not actual litter mates, have been together for several weeks and now besties.  Bobbi is a male kitten of 11 weeks old, with predominantly black fur, decorated with a delicate white necklace on his chest. He’s calm and affectionate and doles out grooming licks to both his pal Manta and his human companions. Bobbi is smooth and gregarious, though not overly bold, he likes people and enjoys exploring new places. His favorite activities are napping, playing hide and seek with Manta, and pretending to hunt a bird feather toy. He really enjoys meal time and occasionally will growl harmlessly as he protectively hovers over his food. With humans, he’s happy to be held, have his tummy rubbed and enjoys long back scratches.  Manta Marcy is a female kitten, also about 11 weeks old, with a white coat and black patches. She has a distinctive black butterfly-shaped patch on the side of her nose. She gets her “Marcy” second name from the Marcy apartments where she was rescued. Manta is the shyer of the pair but is clearly aching for love and building trust with her human companions daily. While at first she may duck away from being held, once she is in your arms, she begins to purrs up a storm and gazes into your eyes like you're her dream come true.   Manta and Bobbi spend large parts of the day sleeping, entwined on an office chair. Several times a day, they’ll spring up, full of energy and run around, playing with their toys and rumbling and wrestling with each other. Then they’ll flop into a pile again and nap until they hear the sounds of dinner, when again they bounce to attention. If kittens could be described as “kind”, these two surely are. They care for and are attentive to each other and their humans. It’s guaranteed that they will make you feel like the hero of their day, and bring you armloads of love in the bargain. Both Bobbi and Manta groom and clean themselves expertly and are virtuoso litterbox users. They have received their shots but have not yet been spayed or neutered, we will work with an adopter to schedule this surgery once the time comes.
