Chama Valley Humane Society

Founded in 1998, the Chama Valley Humane Society is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization supported entirely through fundraising, private donations, and grants. Our mission is to provide no-kill solutions to reduce the population of homeless cats and dogs by sponsoring a spay and neuter program for companion pets and feral cats, working with regional shelters and foster homes to rehabilitate and rehome animals, and educating those in the community we serve about responsible pet ownership. We serve a 600 square mile area of northern Rio Arriba County, New Mexico. We do not have a shelter, but we try to take in all animals we can from the Village of Chama holding facility as well as strays and unwanted animals throughout our region. All rescued animals are fostered locally until they can be adopted or transferred to no- or low-kill shelters or rescues. In addition to rescue and foster, we support the following programs:• A low-cost spay-neuter program for community pet owners• An Angel Fund to help pet owners pay for unexpected veterinarian bills through a no-interest revolving loan• WAG ‘n READ - A Reading Education and Assistance Dogs® program that works in our local schools to strengthen the animal-human bond while enhancing the reading experience for children

Meet Maxwell

Little Maxwell and his siblings (one female, one ?) were left at the post office in Tierra Amarilla at only 5 or so weeks of age. They are now in foster care and at least one of the gray siblings will likely be staying there permanently. But Maxwell (the black boy) and maybe his gray brother will soon be ready for their own homes. They will get first shots on May 17 and we will cover their second shots and also their neuters when they are a bit older. These guys are well socialized and ready to entertain you and your family!

Adoption Process
application, interview animal must be spayed or neutered fees are generally from $35 - $100
