Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society

PAWS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals. PAWS is Philadelphia's largest no-kill shelter and is working to make Philadelphia a city in which every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home. Through its adoption locations, special events, and foster care network, PAWS finds loving homes for thousands of animals each year.In March 2010, PAWS opened a low-cost, high-volume spay/neuter and wellness clinic serving pet owners and rescues in an effort to keep pets healthy and reduce the homeless pet population. Located in the Grays Ferry section of the city, the Clinic serves pet owners who have difficulty affording or do not have access to basic veterinary care (sterilization, vaccinations, treatments for upper respiratory infections/parasites/fleas, etc.) and rescue organizations that need affordable spay/neuter surgery and basic veterinary care to carry out their lifesaving work. Support for PAWS funds lifesaving initiatives including adoption and foster care programs, spay/neuter surgeries, low-cost vaccinations, and other efforts, all of which help reduce and will ultimately eliminate the unnecessary killing of Philadelphia's animals. Donations to PAWS are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Meet Sir Pedro

Today, you all find yourselves equals, for you are all equally blessed! For I have the pride, the privilege, nay, the pleasure of introducing you to a knight, sired by knights. A knight who can trace his lineage back beyond Nyan Cat. I first met him atop his cage shelf at our adoption center, praying to Grumpy Cat, asking his forgiveness for the catnip spilt by his paws. Next, he amazed me still further at his cage door when he saved my boring day from being ravaged by lonliness of a dreadfully quiet shift. In Greece, he spent a year in silence just to better understand the sound...of a treat bag opening. And so, without further gilding of the lily and with no more ado, I give to you the seeker of silliness, the protector of a peaceful life, the enforcer of our scheduled meal times, the one, the only, Sir Peeeeedddddro! Sir Pedro was recently found stray in early April, where he just needed a little help changing his stars. After being properly weighed, and measured, he was found absolutely wanting some dental work (which we already performed, removing all but 4 of his teeth). His future home should just keep an eye out for future issues related to dental disease (stomatitis) in case he needs additional care and/or the rest of those teeth removed.    Age: ~4 years old How I came to PAWS: Found Stray Animal ID#: A56171 Meet me at: PAWS Adoption Center 100 North 2nd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 215-238-9901 ext.30 **Our Old City Adoption Center prioritizes appointments made by already approved applicants, but we can accommodate browsers and walk-ins if and as our capacity allows.
