Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society

PAWS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals. PAWS is Philadelphia's largest no-kill shelter and is working to make Philadelphia a city in which every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home. Through its adoption locations, special events, and foster care network, PAWS finds loving homes for thousands of animals each year.In March 2010, PAWS opened a low-cost, high-volume spay/neuter and wellness clinic serving pet owners and rescues in an effort to keep pets healthy and reduce the homeless pet population. Located in the Grays Ferry section of the city, the Clinic serves pet owners who have difficulty affording or do not have access to basic veterinary care (sterilization, vaccinations, treatments for upper respiratory infections/parasites/fleas, etc.) and rescue organizations that need affordable spay/neuter surgery and basic veterinary care to carry out their lifesaving work. Support for PAWS funds lifesaving initiatives including adoption and foster care programs, spay/neuter surgeries, low-cost vaccinations, and other efforts, all of which help reduce and will ultimately eliminate the unnecessary killing of Philadelphia's animals. Donations to PAWS are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Meet Mammoth

Let this handsome hunk saunter into your life! Mammoth is a chunky boy with lots of love for people. He is incredibly easy going and has adjusted so well to all the changes in his life. He’s a large guy (30 pounds!) who is on a weight loss journey. This doesn’t stop him from playing with all sorts of toys, jumping up on his windowsill to bask in the sun, or hopping up on the bed to curl up next to his foster parents. Left to his own devices for nap time, he'll flop down and snooze in the cutest odd positions. Mammoth is a chill cat who adores being around people. He will let it be known when he wants to spend some quality time with his foster parents — he’s a chatty boy! Mammoth is content to nap right next to you with a paw on your leg while you work. He always greets his foster parents with excited meows, a loud purr, and strong head butts. Mammoth was dropped off at the local shelter before being scooped up by PAWS, so we aren’t sure how he would do with other cats or dogs. It would be important for an adopter to have space for him to be separated from resident pets and to do slow introductions with them. Although his roundness is cute, an adopter should be ready to help Mammoth continue to lose weight by monitoring his calorie intake and ensuring he gets exercise through play. He eats regular cat food (wet and dry) in measured amounts to make sure he can lose weight. Given his size, he does have a hard time grooming his behind at this time (although he tries) and he has a floofier behind. This means he occasionally needs help via brushing and wipes to clean up and avoid matting. We think once he loses some weight, he will have no problem taking care of grooming on his own. It will also be important to have a large litter box so he can use it comfortably and avoid any accidents. Mammoth has some light dental disease that would need to be addressed by his new parent(s). If you are interested in adopting Mammoth, PAWS staff is happy to discuss his needs with you in more detail. Age: 7 years Animal ID#: A180080 I am not at the shelter. Please email my foster parent at [email protected] to learn more about me!
