Black Cat Rescue

Black Cat Rescue is a No Kill cat rescue organization in Massachusetts. Our all-volunteer network of foster homes is dedicated to saving the lives of homeless black cats and kittens by providing quality foster care while actively seeking loving, permanent adoptive homes. As an organization, we work to improve the public image of both black cats and animal adoption by making black cat adoption a positive experience for all involved. We fully embrace the tenets of the No Kill movement. Our foster cats come from all over Massachusetts. We accept owner surrenders as well as strays directly off the streets or from local shelters and rescue organizations.

Meet Benton

Benton is a 1 year old neutered male who is up to date on vaccines. Here’s what his foster volunteer says about him:   How would you describe the cat's general personality?  Benton is first and foremost super affectionate.  He also and loves play time and hanging out with his people with an occasional nap break by himself.   Does the cat enjoy being pet?  Yes If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Just about everywhere. Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? Not really. Does the cat come on your lap? Yes Does the cat like to be held? Yes (he'll even get on your shoulder) Does the cat sleep in your bed? He will if you let him Does the cat seek your attention? Yes   Does the cat like to play? Very much. What are the cat's favorite games and toys? He loves laser pointer, string, pencils, kickers...   How vocal is the cat?  He'll meow occasionally (mostly if you are behind a closed door and he wants in) What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Normal meow   Does the cat scratch a scratcher? Yes, he really likes the cardboard ground scratchers and also uses a standup sisal post. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes   What food and frequency is the cat currently eating?  He eats wet food twice a day and some dry food throughout the day. Is the cat picky about food?  Not that we've seen. What is the cat's favorite treat?  He likes "Calming Chews for Cats" by Sentry   Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances?  No Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No   To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful?  He hides for a bit (especially if they are loud) and then comes out to say hi.   Does the cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions?  Benton is the most affectionate cat.  He loves to rub against you and bonk you with his head and wake you up by snuggling your face.  He will also climb onto your shoulders from the table you are sitting at.   In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt?  You should choose Benton if you are ready for a cat that wants to love you back.  He's so affectionate with snuggles and cuddles.  He has never scratched furniture or eaten plants.   What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them?  He is nervous and skittish at times.  Noises can send him running under the bed, but the more comfortable he becomes in your home, the faster his recovery time will be.  He does not like having his claws clipped.  He also gets nervous with the carrier and sometimes needs some calming drugs for transportation.  Otherwise he is wonderful.
