Meet Lala

Lala is a spunky, one-eyed 16 year old lady looking for her retirement home!Lala has been through a lot. She was a cherished pet until her human passed away a few months ago. When that happened, Lala ended up on the street and then (thanks to a kind neighbor) at Animal Control. What a frightening and confusing time for a mostly blind, mostly deaf elderly lady used to the comforts of a home! Despite her calm demeanor, she was put on the euthanasia list - her advanced age and the medical work she needed done to deal with eye and teeth issues made her unlikely to be adopted. Luckily, Pet Haven stepped in and got her off the list, out of the shelter and into a foster home, to the vet for the care she needed, and now up for adoption! Throughout it all, Lala has been a wonderful mix of spunky and sweet. If she were a human, she'd be the kind of grandma that always had a hug and treats in her purse (or in her case, a ready supply of purrs and headbutts) for her grandkids. She has a loud and scratchy meow but deploys it rarely - mostly just when she notices that her food dish has gotten low (understandable!). She likes to have folks around but also to have her own space to nap and enjoy her retirement years. She has one gorgeous golden eye, a beautifully soft dilute tortoiseshell coat, and an easily-activated heart-warming purr!Lala is very low-key old lady and spends about 20-22 hours a day sleeping, usually near but not on her people. She loves having a blanket or cat bed on the couch or on her foster's desk, where she snoozes away with the kind of bliss that only the nearly-deaf can achieve. When she's awake, she enjoys chin scratches and gentle pets, eating Fancy Feast, and playing with a wand toy or laser pointer. It's pretty impressive how good she is at catching her toy with only one eye and presumably no depth perception!! She does get a little wheezy when she exercises, and prefers her play in small (~5-10 min) doses before returning to her comfy dozing spot. She currently lives in a 3-story house with two adults. She has met a variety of people while in foster care and at the shelter, and is good with strangers of all ages so long as they are respectful (and especially if they provide treats)!Lala's ideal home would be one where she has space to choose between being near her humans (especially in the evenings) and a safe space to sleep undisturbed on her own. She can navigate carpeted stairs despite a little arthritis but jumping is a challenge - she would be great in a house with fewer stories and less total space than she's got now, and benefits from pet stairs to get up onto window sills or other good nap spots. She has previously lived with cats and was not a fan - she is happiest as an only cat. No specific experience needed at this stage - she is a senior citizen and may need medication or other vet support in the future, but honestly it is very easy to medicate as needed! She had to be in a cone for a while after having her eye removed, and was extremely chill about both that and the pharmacy of meds she was on as she recovered. Thanks to Pet Haven, Lala's major medical needs have all been taken care of! She is up to date on shots and senior bloodwork, has had her non-functional eye removed (some photos were taken beforehand - she's now an adorable one-eyed pirate!), and has had her teeth inspected and cleaned. Her only on-going special need is fiber-rich dry food (she is currently eating Royal Canin Gastrointestinal kibble) to reduce the chance of constipation and a little Miralax in advance of and for a few days after stressful events like car rides or vet visits.Grandma Lala has been through a lot, but still has so much joy and love to give! Senior pets are ofter overlooked through no fault of their own. Adopting Lala will give you a heart-warming, silly, low-key friend who demands very little from her owners and returns so much in love, purrs and antics. There is no guarantee of age and breed as a rescue animal's history is unknown. All ages and breeds are best estimate.Adoption fees include a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%.All cats have received comprehensive veterinary care and tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV unless otherwise stated. Cats are up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations and have been spayed/neutered, treated for fleas and/or ear mites, de-wormed, and microchipped. Please note there may be additional follow up visits and boosters that are not covered by Pet Haven after adoption.Interested in adopting or learning more about this cat?
