Lucky Dog Animal Rescue

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs from high-kill shelters and owners who can no longer care for them. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, trainers, and boarding facilities, we are able to rescue hundreds of animals every year, provide them with loving temporary care, and find them well-matched, carefully screened forever homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.

APRIL NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Want to see what April is like in her foster home?! Follow her daily  adventures on Instagram! @luckydogsinloudoun Come meet April and other great adoptable cats this Sunday (July 23rd) from 12-3 pm at the Calverton PetSmart in Silver Spring (12020 Cherry Hill Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20904)!   Name:  April    Best Guess for Breed:  Domestic Short Hair    Age: 11 months as of 6/29/23  SEX:  Female Approximate Weight:  4.6 lbs as of 3/20/2023 Coloring: Black & White  Type of Hair: Short Gets Along With: With proper integration, April should get along with other cats, dogs, and kids. We’re happy to help with tips and tricks! Currently Living at: DC area foster home I am Looking For: My forever home! Hi- I'm April - a gorgeous girl looking for a home of my own. I won’t ask for much...just some love, cuddles and a sunny place to nap. And maybe a few toys too!  What My Foster Says About Me: April is SUCH a sweet girl! She tends to look scared and grumpy in some pictures, but it turns out she isn’t really either of those things! She has the most beautiful sleek black coat with a tuft of white fur on her chest (on her lower belly too now that I have gotten to see it more!) and striking yellow eyes. When we first got home, she hung out in a cat cave bed for a couple hours to decompress, but when I came in to hang out with her, I was already able to coax her out for some pets. It turns out she loves to be pet! She has a gentle purr and once she trusts you, will let you pet her as long as you want without any warning nibbles.  She’s so gentle and affectionate, she has never ever once tried to bite or claw me, even when I am doing something she doesn't like.  She hasn’t been very vocal, just some hoarse little protests when she is in her carrier (it’s easy to put her in), but once we were in the car, she was a silent little co-pilot. Sometimes she will quietly chat with you, too, to ask for pets. She has had very neat litter manners and is just such a doll. She can be cautious and a little skittish with quick movements or loud noises, and she will need someone with patience, but it has definitely toned down over time - the vacuum was being used outside her room recently and she didn't run away! Her main goal is to always feel comfortable, and we have definitely made tons of progress in the short time she has been with me. She has such potential once she feels truly comfortable in a home, and I think she could eventually get to lap cat status!  She has recently started to cutely roll around in front of me and make air biscuits, showing me her belly, and wanting head scritches. She absolutely loves butt scratches! She also likes shredded wet food, although I think she just licking the gravy the most. ;) She sometimes hangs out in the cat hammock that is attached to the window or at the tippy top of the cat tree and loves to play (mostly when I am not around, for now, but has started to chase a crinkle toy when I throw it for her). She has even started to play with the wand toy with me! She is even warming up to my cat and is showing signs of wanting to play with her, too! She likes to wait until my cat isn't looking to do a little butt wiggle and run up to pounce. :) My cat even showed her how to use the floor scratcher, and now she's using it more and more.  With a little time and understanding, she will be someone's purrrrrrfect friend!
