Last Hope Animal Rescue

Last Hope Animal Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Formed in March of 2004, we are an all volunteer animal rescue group comprised of foster homes in the greater Cedar Rapids area. Many of our animals come from local kill shelters, as their time has run out due to any number of reasons including lack of space, not deemed adoptable, special needs, etc. Our purpose is to save as many homeless, abused, abandoned, hard to place, neglected animals that we can and to place as many animals as possible into loving, forever homes where they will be cherished.

Meet Harry Potter

A former rescue kitty, Harry, aka "Harry Potter", lost his human unexpectedly and was found injured and wandering the streets in bad shape by a good Samaritan. Harry has made a full recovery, but his former alley cat lifestyle did leave him with FIV. This otherwise healthy 3-year-old boy is very outgoing and affectionate. He gets along well with other male and female cats (with slow and proper introductions, of course), he is gentle with kids, and comfortable around cat-friendly mellow dogs. If you are looking for a big, handsome. green-eyed love-bug to occupy your lap while you telecommute, or keep your feet warm while you sleep, you'd be a terrific human for this sweet boy. While Harry has FIV, he is a low risk to other cats. FIV is spread primarily through deep bite wounds incurred from territorial fighting. After being neutered, Harry has put his alley cat days behind him, and is content to live a relaxed couch potato lifestyle. He peacefully coexists with 3 other adult cats and is usually found napping with his cat friends. Despite his "tough guy" appearance, he backs off easily when bossed around by more dominant cats (especially female cats!). Harry is a real gentleman. Cats with FIV can live long healthy lives with proper nutrition and routine vet care. He must stay current with preventative vaccines, and because he is more susceptible to infections than the average adult cat, should receive prompt vet attention should he display any signs of illness. He must also be a strictly inside kitty. No exceptions. Harry would be happiest living having a cat companion in his new family, but would do OK as a single cat as long as his humans aren't gone a lot. He is a very social kitty who enjoys companionship of both humans and cats. Harry is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, dewormed, flea treated, and has tested negative for Feline Leukemia. His adoption fee is $85. This covers his neuter fees current vaccinations, FeLV/FIV test, microchip, deworming, and monthly flea treatments. Last Hope requires that all cats be kept current on vaccinations and are *indoor* pets only.  If you are interested in meeting this big handsome lover boy, please fill out an application on our website.

Adoption Process
Prior to adoption, all of our dogs have been tested for heartworm, current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, and spayed or neutered, if age appropriate. Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and home visit. The adoption fee for dogs and puppies varies. Prior to adoption, our cats have been tested for feline leukemia, current on vaccinations, micro-chipped, and spayed or neutered, if age appropriate. If at the time of adoption, the kitten is too young to be spayed or neutered, an agreed upon time frame will be set for when this procedure is to be done. Spaying or neutering is not an optional procedure, it is required of all animals we rescue. The adoption fee for cats and kittens varies.

Look for other cats for adoption!
