Meet Patchy

***The adoption process starts with an application at www.emmetcountyanimalshelter.org*** This itty-bitty black and white kitty is Patchy!  Patchy is just a petite lil thing born April of 2023.  If we could only use one adjective to describe Patchy is would have to be playful.  Patchy just loves toys, running around and playing.  She is very inquisitive and likes to try to figure things out.  Patchy was found as a little kitten in a colony but she wasn't feeling good, so she came into the shelter to get better.  As it turned out, Patchy was Feline Leukemia (FeLV) positive so she stayed.  Patchy loves other cats and sadly, we have several FeLV positive kitties right now but that works for her because she has lots of friends!  She particularly enjoys spending time with Gilligan because he is super active and playful too.  They would make a great pair to head to a home together.  Feline Leukemia is a virus that lives in the cat after being exposed.  What that means is that their immune system is compromised and they might be more susceptible to getting sick IF exposed.  FeLV is most often spread via birth from an infected mom (most likely Patchy's instance) or through sexual transmission or deep bite wound.  So if a cat is altered that generally removes those transmissions from being an issue since altered cats are not reproducing or fighting for territory.  It is thought that FeLV cats can also spread the virus through long term, close contact although the exact definition of long term and close contact has not been determined.  Therefore it is generally recommended that FeLV positive cats are homed with other positive FeLV positives.  However, there are very effective vaccinations that can be used to protect non-positive cats in a home as well.   Back to Patchy....she would love an active home that is ok with her playful antics and silly craziness.  A friend would be great and her buddy Gilligan would be ideal!  She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped.  As always, our adoption fee for cats/kittens is free will to approved applicants. 

Adoption Process
application, adoption fees for dogs/puppies start at $150-$300. Cats/kittens are free will offering adoptions. Contracts for adoptions must be signed. All animals (unless too young) are altered prior to adoption. If not altered a deposit is paid and given back plus a rebate after the alteration has been performed.
