Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society

PAWS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals. PAWS is Philadelphia's largest no-kill shelter and is working to make Philadelphia a city in which every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home. Through its adoption locations, special events, and foster care network, PAWS finds loving homes for thousands of animals each year.In March 2010, PAWS opened a low-cost, high-volume spay/neuter and wellness clinic serving pet owners and rescues in an effort to keep pets healthy and reduce the homeless pet population. Located in the Grays Ferry section of the city, the Clinic serves pet owners who have difficulty affording or do not have access to basic veterinary care (sterilization, vaccinations, treatments for upper respiratory infections/parasites/fleas, etc.) and rescue organizations that need affordable spay/neuter surgery and basic veterinary care to carry out their lifesaving work. Support for PAWS funds lifesaving initiatives including adoption and foster care programs, spay/neuter surgeries, low-cost vaccinations, and other efforts, all of which help reduce and will ultimately eliminate the unnecessary killing of Philadelphia's animals. Donations to PAWS are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Meet Bea Arthur

No optical illusions needed here, this golden girl is indeed a black cat! Bea Arthur was taking care of herself well enough outside, just minding her own business, but was scooped up by a colony caretaker and brought inside when some neighbors started harassing her. After getting over a quick kitty cold, Bea beelined right for our adoption center to retire in style with her new family! Not much is known about her before she was found, and while she is still a bit shy and keeping to herself here in Old City we expect great and cuddly things from her in the future! She was very friendly with humans and cats alike (we aren't sure about dogs), so Bea Arthur would likely do well adjusting into many different styles of homes!    Age: ~2 years old How I came to PAWS: Found Stray Animal ID#: A53530 Meet me at: PAWS Adoption Center 100 North 2nd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 215-238-9901 ext.30 **Our Old City Adoption Center is now re-opened, but with limited capacity (maximum occupancy of 9 people including staff/volunteers)! We are prioritizing any appointments made by already approved applicants, but can entertain browsers and walk-ins as that capacity allows (we just can't promise any same day adoptions).
