Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society

PAWS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals. PAWS is Philadelphia's largest no-kill shelter and is working to make Philadelphia a city in which every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home. Through its adoption locations, special events, and foster care network, PAWS finds loving homes for thousands of animals each year.In March 2010, PAWS opened a low-cost, high-volume spay/neuter and wellness clinic serving pet owners and rescues in an effort to keep pets healthy and reduce the homeless pet population. Located in the Grays Ferry section of the city, the Clinic serves pet owners who have difficulty affording or do not have access to basic veterinary care (sterilization, vaccinations, treatments for upper respiratory infections/parasites/fleas, etc.) and rescue organizations that need affordable spay/neuter surgery and basic veterinary care to carry out their lifesaving work. Support for PAWS funds lifesaving initiatives including adoption and foster care programs, spay/neuter surgeries, low-cost vaccinations, and other efforts, all of which help reduce and will ultimately eliminate the unnecessary killing of Philadelphia's animals. Donations to PAWS are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Meet Anemone

Come down and see our cool as a cucumber Anemone! Anemone does appear to be deaf as well, for those of you familiar enough with this deep dive random cat fact about all white cat with heterochromia (deafness is just genetically very common with this combined attributes). Anemone is still adjusting to shelter life after spending the last few years in an overpopulated (but not quite hoarding) and cat filled home, but has warmed up quickly to staff and volunteers after a few days to settle in. So while she might take a little time to adjust, Anemone is a sweet cat who also could make friends with other kitties in your home that match her speed and style. Since she is deaf, she might not do too well in a home with really young children (no one likes being snuck up on by a recently mobile toddler) and we don't know about dogs either, but likely not something too bouncy and energetic.  Anemone will need to have some follow-up post adoption with a full service vet for her mouth. She could use a cleaning and further evaluation to determine if extractions are also needed. But, all things considered she's looking pretty good and on par with most cats her age that have been outside for as long as her!   Age: ~8 years old How I came to PAWS: Owner Surrender Animal ID#: A53531 Meet me at: PAWS Adoption Center 100 North 2nd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 215-238-9901 ext.30 **Our Old City Adoption Center is now re-opened, but with limited capacity (maximum occupancy of 9 people including staff/volunteers)! We are prioritizing any appointments made by already approved applicants, but can entertain browsers and walk-ins as that capacity allows (we just can't promise any same day adoptions).
