Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society

PAWS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals. PAWS is Philadelphia's largest no-kill shelter and is working to make Philadelphia a city in which every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home. Through its adoption locations, special events, and foster care network, PAWS finds loving homes for thousands of animals each year.In March 2010, PAWS opened a low-cost, high-volume spay/neuter and wellness clinic serving pet owners and rescues in an effort to keep pets healthy and reduce the homeless pet population. Located in the Grays Ferry section of the city, the Clinic serves pet owners who have difficulty affording or do not have access to basic veterinary care (sterilization, vaccinations, treatments for upper respiratory infections/parasites/fleas, etc.) and rescue organizations that need affordable spay/neuter surgery and basic veterinary care to carry out their lifesaving work. Support for PAWS funds lifesaving initiatives including adoption and foster care programs, spay/neuter surgeries, low-cost vaccinations, and other efforts, all of which help reduce and will ultimately eliminate the unnecessary killing of Philadelphia's animals. Donations to PAWS are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Meet Barbara

Throw away whatever checklist you were formulating in your brain, because we can promise that Barbara ticks off all of the boxes! Floofy, chatty, soft, friendly, cuddly, and just plain gorgeous. Whether it's her squeaky cute meow while begging for attention, happy biscuit making on her bed, or those big doe eyes, how can you resist this terrific tortoiseshell darling? Outside of that, we unfortunately don't know anything about her history or backstory beyond the fact she was surrendered by a family member of her previous owner after she was put outside. That also means we don't know what type of home she lived in since those details weren't shared, so we recommend taking it slow if you have other pets and younger kids, but she appears pretty confident and social so far while in our care.  Did you notice her ear? Just another cute and unique thing about her, right? It isn't causing her any issues currently and is likely just from a previous infection or injury, so her new family should just monitor for any signs of pain or debris buildup in the future.   Age: ~2 years old  How I came to PAWS: Owner Surrender/Abandoned Animal ID#: A53486 Meet me at: PAWS Adoption Center 100 North 2nd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106 215-238-9901 ext.30 **Our Old City Adoption Center is now re-opened, but with limited capacity (maximum occupancy of 9 people including staff/volunteers)! We are prioritizing any appointments made by already approved applicants, but can entertain browsers and walk-ins as that capacity allows (we just can't promise any same day adoptions).
