Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue

Founded in 2003 by Lana Bajsel, Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue (a registered 501(C)3 non-profit organization), has worked tirelessly within the San Francisco community to help stop the overpopulation of abandoned and unwanted adult and senior cats.As a small group of dedicated volunteers, we try to save as many feline lives as we can. We provide behavioral and medical intervention, unconditional love and a safe haven while we seek new forever homes for our feline friends. As many of you know, the odds are stacked against older cats that are placed in local shelters. Here in San Francisco, most adult cats are at risk of being euthanized, whether it is due to their age, easily treatable medical conditions, or due to the stress of being placed in a shelter. We believe that adult and senior cats, with their typically calm personalities, can make the best of family pets. Our mission is to rescue these cats and find them loving, permanent homes through fostering and active adoption strategies.

Meet Winston

Hi! We are Winston and Grace! We were rescued in Kahramanmaras, Turkey by Help Street Cats and Dogs, www.helpstreetcatsdogs.com/winston and www.helpstreetcatsdogs.com/grace, a local rescue that helps neglected, abused street cats and dogs.   We are survivors against all odds. Both of us were hit by a car and lost a leg. We bravely endured the harsh streets of Turkey. Luckily for us, we were rescued from a shelter, giving us a second chance at life.   We are tightly bonded and love cuddling and playing together! The fact that we’re tripods doesn’t phase us in the slightest. I (Winston) am a little more agile due to having both back paws, so I love exploring and hopping up to high places. I (Grace) am slightly more limited my mobility due to having only one back leg but still love jogging around and exploring.   I am a very confident fellow and didn’t even need a minute to adjust to my foster home. I was jumping on my foster family’s lap as soon as they opened the carrier! I am an extremely affectionate, velcro kitty. I will be close to you no matter what you’re doing, and am quick to jump on to your lap any moment it’s free. I am also a purring machine!   I have the loudest, most soothing purr. I would be the purrfect companion if you work from home. I am a chatty boy, letting you know when I want attention. I have a quirky habit of meowing whenever you’re petting me, to let you know I’m loving it! I am also a high-energy boy, I love running around and I go crazy for a felt string toy. I definitely dominate playtime, so my foster family has found it best to sometimes separate us so that we both get enough playtime in.   We are an extra special bonded pair. Wouldn’t you love to adopt us together?   Follow us @sf_kitties. Please note:Winston should be adopted with his best friendIndoor only For more information & an online application go to https://www.givemesheltersf.org/adoption/cat.php?id=12275&ts=1747206153&src=rg

Adoption Process
All of our adopters are required to fill out an online application. Once we review the application, we contact the applicant to do a phone interview, and a zoom call to meet and learn more about the cat with the foster parent to determine if it's a good fit for everyone. Then the potential adopter can meet the cat in person and take them home if approved through this process. We have them sign an adoption agreement and pay $150 adoption fee.
