Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue

Founded in 2003 by Lana Bajsel, Give Me Shelter Cat Rescue (a registered 501(C)3 non-profit organization), has worked tirelessly within the San Francisco community to help stop the overpopulation of abandoned and unwanted adult and senior cats.As a small group of dedicated volunteers, we try to save as many feline lives as we can. We provide behavioral and medical intervention, unconditional love and a safe haven while we seek new forever homes for our feline friends. As many of you know, the odds are stacked against older cats that are placed in local shelters. Here in San Francisco, most adult cats are at risk of being euthanized, whether it is due to their age, easily treatable medical conditions, or due to the stress of being placed in a shelter. We believe that adult and senior cats, with their typically calm personalities, can make the best of family pets. Our mission is to rescue these cats and find them loving, permanent homes through fostering and active adoption strategies.

Meet Ginger

Hi! My name is Ginger! I was surrendered when my previous person had to move to a long-term care facility. I never thought I would ever lose my person or my home, especially at my age, but sadly I did. At first I was skeptical I would be able to adapt to a new home and new humans but after some time in my foster home I realized I was wrong! I’m a beautiful, calm and affectionate orange Tabby girl. Yep, I’m an uncommon female orange Tabby. Humans often assume all orange Tabbies are males but there’s a small percentage of us females mixed in and we're special. I’m initially shy in new environments and around new humans but it’s understandable after not having to face change for so many years. I was content and comfortable in my previous home with my person for so long and honestly, I can’t remember the last time I dealt with any major life changes. Change can be scary and overwhelming but a quiet and calm environment really helps me while I’m adjusting to so much newness. It took me a while to warm up in my foster home but my foster human was so patient and loving while she observed me and took baby steps towards gaining my trust. She quickly learned that I’m very food motivated so she used yummy Hills i/d food to help me feel more comfortable out in the open and to help build my confidence. Once I settled in and felt more relaxed, I revealed my ultra affectionate purrsonality. I love nothing more than sitting next to my human and receiving pets and every now and then I even like to play with a fun string toy. I adore humans once I get to know them and will let you know how happy I am to see you with my tiny squeaks! I’m looking for a calm home with a family who will be patient with me while I adapt to my new surroundings and get to know you. Oh and who will also continue to feed me the Hills prescription food I love (hence the special needs label). Now I know change isn’t bad like I imagined it would be and I can’t wait to meet my forever family! Adoption Process
All of our adopters are required to fill out an online application. Once we review the application, we contact the applicant to do a phone interview, and a zoom call to meet and learn more about the cat with the foster parent to determine if it's a good fit for everyone. Then the potential adopter can meet the cat in person and take them home if approved through this process. We have them sign an adoption agreement and pay $150 adoption fee.

Look for other cats for adoption!
