The Humane Society of Elmore County

The Humane Society of Elmore County is located in Wetumpka, Alabama (Elmore County) just northeast of Montgomery in south-central Alabama. We are a non-profit, 501(c)3, organization and have been operational for almost twenty years at the same location. Our shelter is an Open Admission shelter taking in over 5,000 domestic animals annually from Elmore County citizens and from the various Animal Control Officers (ACO) from throughout Elmore County. We work every day to provide a safe and humane environment for the 250-300 animals in our care and to also find loving and lifetime homes for as many of them as possible. We strive to educate the public on issues involving pets and animal welfare and welcome opportunities to address groups of all ages and interests. Our operational expenses are met through donations from private individuals, groups and businesses, our own fund-raising activities, grants, adoption fees and the contracts we have with cities and the county to accept animals from their ACO's. We gratefully accept financial donations, donations of pet food and supplies at the shelter, and items for our Tails End Thrift Store located adjacent to the shelter. All donations to our shelter are tax deductible and we will happily provide a receipt for any donation as requested. Please read ALL below where you will find answers about the pet, our adoption fees and how to do our adoption application!   Pet Description:  Snap is ten-weeks old as of mid-Jan '23.  Female.  INDOOR ONLY ADOPTION!  Bit more independent, loves to chase toys and play with ribbons.  In the evening likes to sit on your shoulder and cuddle,  Great with children, dogs and cats - been raised in a foster home.   ADOPTION FEES:  Cats & Kittens under one year old are $50.00 but cats over a year old are 'name your adoption fee.'   All cat adoptions include......mandatory spay/neuter which will be done before you can take your kitty home with you; basic kitty immunizations (FVR-CP+Calici); de-worming; one-year rabies vaccination if old enough; microchip from 24-Pet Watch; certificate for free health examination at your participating veterinarian; and a goodie bag chocked full of information, toys, etc.     The first step is to our Adoption Application here:  https://elmorehumane.org/adoption-application-online-form2.html .   IMPORTANT – we respond to your emailed applications and queries via email back to you.  Please make sure you have either added our email ([email protected]) to your contact list or that you routinely check your SPAM folder for our response just to be safe. Adoption Process
ADOPTION FEES Dogs & Puppies.....$100.00. Cats....$50. This Price Includes......mandatory spay/neuter which will be done before you can take your dog or puppy home with you; basic canine immunizations (DHPP-CPV); de-worming; rabies vaccination if old enough; heartworm test for dogs over five months old; microchip from 24-Pet Watch; certificate for free health examination at your participating veterinarian; pet health insurance from 24-Pet Watch (for covered illness or injury for 30-45 days) with your email address; and a goodie bag chocked full of information, toys, and more.
