5 ways to celebrate the national dog day with your pooch this year

National Dog Day is on August 26, and we are getting ready to celebrate all our furry friends in the best ways possible! Let’s talk about that special day. What is National Dog Day, and how can you thoroughly enjoy that day with your four-legged friend?

About National Dog Day

National Dog Day was first established in 2004 by pet & family lifestyle advocate Colleen Paige. It’s the day where we celebrate all breeds, mixed and pure, and it serves to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of dogs that need to be rescued each year, either from public shelters, rescues, or pure breed rescues.

Colleen Paige created this day so that all dogs can be celebrated, but also to draw attention to the number of dogs in shelters, and encourage adoption to those who have yet to find a place to call home.

Colleen Paige, the founder of the holiday, also uses the day to draw attention to how dogs contribute to our society. From putting their lives on the line to help law enforcement track down bombs or drug dealers to assisting those who need it. It’s also a day where we celebrate the important role that dogs play in our day-to-day life.
