Humane Society of Jefferson County

The HSJC is located in Jefferson, Wisconsin and is a small, privately run non-profit shelter that has been in operation since 1922. We recently celebrated our 90th year of caring for dogs, cats, birds and other small animals in need. Each year, close to 1,000 pets find sanctuary at our shelter. We put forth great effort to reunite owners with lost pets and to find good new homes for those who need a second chance. We do not impose a time limit on how long a healthy, adoptable animal may stay with us as they wait to be adopted.

Meet Lyle

Neutered male Pit Bull Terrier mix 1 year old, currently 30 lbs. Sweet and goofy Affectionate and energetic Needs daily exercise Loves most other dogs Approved for respectful children of all ages I'm a sweet and goofy young boy who adores people and most other dogs. I am energetic and affectionate, which makes me a ball of fun and a ray of sunshine! I have a happy go lucky personality and am very outgoing. I love to run and play with my pup friends here at the shelter and will need daily exercise in my forever home. I have nice leash manners, am treat motivated, and would do great in training classes. I'm approved for respectful children of all ages and would love to live with kids, so I should be a truly great family dog! The online adoption listing websites require that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.

Adoption Process
We do not do same-day adoptions. In order for an application to be approved, all animals in the home must be up to date on routine vaccinations, we must receive approval from the landlord or be able to verify home ownership. We also require the consent of all adults in the home. Ideally, all members of a household will meet an animal before adoption, but in cases where that is not possible, verbal consent is acceptable. Once approved, when adopting a dog, we require that any other dogs in the household come to the shelter to do a supervised interaction with the adoptable dog. Adoption fees are as follows: Dogs under 6 months: $150 Dogs 6 months and over: $125 Cats under 6 months: $95 Cats 6 months and over: $80 Rabbits: $25 Ferrets: $55 Parakeets: $15 Rats, Hamsters, Gerbils: $5 Finches & Canaries: $10 Mice: $3 Cockatiels: $50 Guinea Pigs: $12 Chinchillas: $50 Pigs: $100
