Meet Tank

_________ B I O ______________  Name:  Tank Size: ~Large range: 61-100 lbs  Adoption Donation: $75 (applicable sales tax included). Adoption fees may be paid by cash or check.   Other:   Neutered Male, Vaccinations current, Microchip, Older considerate children only *  Tank has allergies and requires daily medication to manage them. This medication cost is about $170.00 per month. He may also require allergy shots seasonally (every 4-6 weeks) at an additional cost, but he has been without them and doing well. * A generous donor wants to help Tank find his forever home, and has donated enough funds for him to be adopted with two full months worth of his allergy medication.   Tank  is good with other dogs and is super friendly!   Foster Home Feedback  11/10/2022 Foster Feedback: Tank is a good boy, well-behaved, and listens well. He knows the sit, lay down, and stay commands. He is very trustworthy. We can leave him alone in the house for hours and nothing disturbed. We do not ever use the kennel as he is NOT happy there. He loves to fetch however doesn’t drop the ball well. He will hang out with us on the couch and really enjoys the cozy comfort! He gets very excited when guests arrive but does settle down nicely. We have heard that he gets along well with other dogs (haven’t tried that) however not sure about cats. He’s a lover and needs a forever home! 10/13/2022 Temporary Care Feedback: We were lucky enough to have Tank visit us for a few days. He was the perfect houseguest! He LOVED our kids (ages 10-15). He LOVES snuggling on the couch and adjusting once in a while to get even closer to you! He was left out all day with our resident dogs and he didn't have any accidents! He also didn't chew on anything around the house. He enjoys playing fetch and tug, but if you don't feel like playing, he would be happy to watch some TV and snuggle with you! He is just happy to be with people and have something comfy to rest on! Give this boy a chance and apply today! He will be your very best friend! 9/9/2022 Foster Feedback: Tank has been attending classes at Down Dog Studios to work on his manners and has shown a lot of improvement. String Cheese is his favorite training treat! Tank is a big love bug that doesn't know his size and thinks he is a lap dog when you are on the couch. Tank would do best in a home with a fenced yard and a playful pup if there is another dog in the home. He gets so excited to see new friends on the other side of our fence, that he will sometimes try to get under it-so watch him closely! We have been managing his allergies and he still gets fed special food and receives a daily dose of his apoquel.  7/23/2022 Foster Update: Tank is definitely a shadow and loves to be wherever people are. He loves to cuddle and give kisses but is not a fan of being kenneled and will cry the entire time he is in the crate. He has a LOT of energy and requires time outside to just run around the yard if we don’t go for a walk. Tank is tough on toys (definitely a super chewer) so he only has kongs to play with or bones to chew on. Whenever we have friends or people over, he MUST be the center of attention and will go from person to person getting pets and belly rubs. Tank is a big guy (just shy of 100lbs) and he does jump on people when they come into the house so he needs to be held back until people are settled and ready for him. He plays rather rough so older, considerate children only and it’s best if he’s the only dog. The few times we’ve had him around other dogs he’s played too rough and the other dog got defensive. It’s unknown if he’s okay with cats.  Tank would be best in a home that has a set routine that can take him for walks or play in a yard; I don’t think apartment life would suit him. He gets two doses of Apoquel in pill pockets a day, bath with medicated shampoo as needed. His allergies are managed with this routine and the Cytopoint shots. He also needs Science Hill food for sensitive skin and stomach. He also takes an anxiety medication as needed if we know the routine is going to change or if there are loud, unexpected noises scheduled like fireworks. He also gets it before vet appointments and before a lot of people are over (more than four). Tank is house trained and will hit a bell or the doorknob if he needs to go out. He knows sit, lay down, and shake, but is selectively deaf when asked to wait, drop it, or leave it. Tank is a goofy, large dude and deserves a family that can care for him! Whoever chooses him will be gifted with a friend who loves them wholeheartedly and without pause. 1/8/2022: Tank, Tanker, Tank Tot all names we call him. He is a very loving guy with endless love, snuggles, and kisses to give. His manners have been continuing to improve and so has his willingness to be in the kennel. We leave him out while we are gone with our resident pup and they have done well, 80% of the time. (I mean they are puppies, mischief is in their fabric). Tank has a lot of energy and strength and loves to play a lot. It has been so cold that we haven't been taking him on walks, but he gets plenty of exercise by chasing Wrigley around the house and outside playing with Birdie along the fence line. Tank would make the perfect companion to a single dog home. It takes him a bit to warm up to other dogs, but once he does they are best buds. Please consider adopting this big goof, he is waiting for his perfect home. 12/19/2021: Tank joined our home on December 9, the last week he has settled in well. He gets along well with our resident dog, Wrigley, and loves to play in the snow and chew on his kong and rope toys. He is also fond of our neighbor dog Birdie and plays with her along the fence. Tank loves to cuddle even though he takes up the whole couch we let him and give him lots of pets and belly rubs. We are working on his manners and he is getting so much better at understanding the way our home works. He is excellent at sit, shake, stay, down, and off but needs work on his listening when we ask him to come or drop something. To our surprise Tank doesn't really like crunchy treats, but he will do anything for string cheese! We have tried working with Tank on being in the kennel and there is still a long way to go there. Last night was the first time he willingly went in on his own. Granted it was only for less than a minute, but that is progress.   At bedtime, he sleeps on his dog bed on the floor next to me. Although if we had room in our bed, he would love to snuggle up with us in there. We allow him to roam the house with our pup while we are away and he has done well. He also got to meet my niece last weekend (she is 1) and he did well. He was super curious about what she was doing and wanted to be within eyesight of her all day. 12/3/2021:  Tank would be considered a shadow dog and loves to be wherever his people are. He loves to cuddle and give kisses. He has a LOT of energy and requires time outside to just run around the yard if we don’t go for a walk. Tank is tough on toys (definitely a super chewer) so he only gets tough toys like Kong’s to play with or bones to chew on. Whenever we have friends or people over, Tank MUST be the center of attention and will go from person to person getting pets and belly rubs. Tank has been having play dates with other dogs at the shelter and he has been doing extremely well with it. He has been taking cues from other dogs extremely well. Tank would be best in a home that has a set routine that can take him for walks or play in a yard. Tank is house trained and will signal when he wants to go out, he has used a bell tied to the door or he will go bump the doorknob. He knows basic commands like sit, lay down, and shake. He could use a little work remaining calm when new guests enter, but he just loves everyone too much! Tank is a goofy, large dude and deserves a family that can care for him! Whoever chooses him will be gifted with a friend who loves them wholeheartedly and without pause. 11/21/2021: Tank is definitely a shadow and loves to be wherever people are. He gets two doses of Apoquel in pill pockets a day, ears cleaned twice a week, bath with medicated shampoo once a week, and paws soaked in Epsom salt and room temperature water every other day. His allergies are managed with this routine and the Cytopoint shots. He also needs Science Hill food for sensitive skin and stomach mixed with two tablespoons of pumpkin twice a day (for the pumpkin that’s mixed in with his food, it HAS to be Libby’s brand otherwise it will give him diarrhea); he gets a total of four cups of food each day. Tank does get a lot of dander and sheds a lot if he doesn’t get the baths or that food. He also takes an anxiety medication as needed if we know the routine is going to change or if there are loud, unexpected noises scheduled like fireworks. He also gets it before vet appointments and before a lot of people are over (more than four). Tank has Duoxo pads that I rub on his chin, snout, and his paws as needed because he will get red and bleed frequently, especially in the spring and summertime when his allergies are at their peak. I have a document that says what he’s allergic to and to what level.    Tank is house trained and will hit a bell or the doorknob if he needs to go out but his bladder is small for such a large dude so every time he drinks something he typically has to go out. He is prone to accidents if you try to rush him so I usually let him sniff the yard for about 15 minutes each time he goes out. He knows sit, lay down, and shake, but is selectively deaf when asked to wait, drop it, or leave it.    Tank is a goofy, large dude and deserves a family that can care for him! Whoever chooses him will be gifted with a friend who loves them wholeheartedly and without pause.
