Almost Home Dog Rescue

We are a small group of volunteers whose goal is to save the lives of homeless dogs suffering in high-kill shelters. In doing so, we hope to provide an alternative to the purchase of puppy-mill and pet-store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for and ultimately the supply of such dogs. We strive to match each dog with the right family after the dog has been observed in a foster home.

Meet Duchess

~Duchess is a two year old hound mix, spayed and current on all shots. This sweetheart is looking for the right home where she can shine to her full potential. Duchess loves to cuddle up for naps, bury her nose in blankets, and give hugs. She has playful energy and would enjoy long walks or a big backyard for running. A dog park with obstacle courses would be a fun treat as she is a very graceful jumper! She loves squeaky stuffed toys and crunchy dog treats. Duchess is very interested in playing with other dogs but we strongly recommend that she be the sole dog in the house. A good obedience class or daycare would be beneficial in building her social skills. Her current foster mom has two senior dogs to whom Duchess often shows aggression towards unprompted. For all the love she has to give, Duchess is an anxious little bird. Her ideal humans will be home a lot and have proper training to reassure her when she is left alone. Surprisingly, she has grown comfortable enough around vacuums to nap next to them! Duchess has had some instability in her home and will need her next owners to be very aware of what an anxious young dog needs. At this time, she is not house trained at her current foster parents and will require patience and understanding when she transitions to her new home. Duchess is not recommended for a child's first pet and would be best paired with an experienced dog owner. Duchess has an immense amount of love, joy, and goofiness to share with the right family - message us if you think you might be them! Please email us at [email protected] to find out if Duchess is the right one for you! (Local adoptions preferred — Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.) PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US!  We are NOT a shelter: All of our dogs live in private homes with foster families. Come and meet the Almost Home dogs and their fosters at our Meet & Greet events, where you can learn more about our wonderful dogs from the people who live with them, find out which dogs are on their way and when they’ll arrive, and fill out an application to adopt or foster. We cannot adopt to homes where electric-shock fencing systems or training collars are used. For more information on the dangers of electric-shock collars, please visit banshockcollars.ca/studies.php and http://www.hollysden.com/say_no_to_shock.htm (scroll down and click on the  "Invisible Fencing Systems" link). We do not have an online adoption application; to request an application, e-mail us at [email protected]. To speed e-mail processing time, be sure to note the name of the dog you are inquiring about in the Subject line. For Meet & Greet times and locations, visit our home page, where you also will find information on our adoption process and fees. FOSTER FAMILIES ARE LIFESAVERS!! Can you open your heart and home for a few weeks to homeless shelter dog? Remember, by fostering a dog, you save TWO lives — that of your foster dog, and that of the dog who takes his place in the shelter! Come to a Meet & Greet and find out if fostering is for you — there's no reward quite like the feeling that you've saved a life ... or two!

Adoption Process
We require vet and reference checks and a home visit for all adoptions. Our adoption fee is $275 with an extra $50 deposit for unaltered puppies.

Look for other dogs for adoption!
