Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society

PAWS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals. PAWS is Philadelphia's largest no-kill shelter and is working to make Philadelphia a city in which every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home. Through its adoption locations, special events, and foster care network, PAWS finds loving homes for thousands of animals each year.In March 2010, PAWS opened a low-cost, high-volume spay/neuter and wellness clinic serving pet owners and rescues in an effort to keep pets healthy and reduce the homeless pet population. Located in the Grays Ferry section of the city, the Clinic serves pet owners who have difficulty affording or do not have access to basic veterinary care (sterilization, vaccinations, treatments for upper respiratory infections/parasites/fleas, etc.) and rescue organizations that need affordable spay/neuter surgery and basic veterinary care to carry out their lifesaving work. Support for PAWS funds lifesaving initiatives including adoption and foster care programs, spay/neuter surgeries, low-cost vaccinations, and other efforts, all of which help reduce and will ultimately eliminate the unnecessary killing of Philadelphia's animals. Donations to PAWS are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

Meet Shallot

Meet Shallot! He is a charming and affectionate low-rider who will make it a point to lean against you, or on your feet for attention and a nice snuggle. With his people, he is both excitable and respectful; His foster reports that he is even considerate when requesting pets — gently nudging you until he can get your attention. Shallot recently came back to PAWS after realizing that the busy city life is not for him - lots of strange sounds and people passing him on walks is pretty scary for this sensitive guy. He would love a home with a yard where he can do his business, or in a quiet & low-traffic neighborhood. When he's in a more low-key area, Shallot loves his walks and being able to sniff.  Shallot is a very bright pup who learned several commands (stay, wait, sit, come, lay down, go to your best, relax, go back, touch, and leave it to name a few!) very quickly. He is both crate trained and housebroken, but does prefer it when his people are at home with him, and would adore being someone's work from home buddy! Shallot will definitely let you know when he's feeling stressed or afraid, so he may not be a fit for apartment-life.  Shallot has enjoyed having a confident dog friend in a past foster home to show him the ropes, and we think he would love to live with another respectful and playful pup in an adoptive home. He has such a sweet and goofy personality, and is a natural born ballerina with his feet always ready to go in first position! A household who can provide him with routine and structure, patience, quiet, playtime, and plenty of belly rubs will surely adore having this low rider as a forever pet!  Age: ~3-4 Years How I came to PAWS: Found Stray Animal ID#: A-53714 Weight: 31lbs Mixed breed (It’s impossible to identify breed mix by sight alone, so for most dogs, their mix is only a guess. We get to know each dog as an individual and strive to make matches based on personality, not on breed label.) Location: Grays Ferry Clinic All of our dog meets are by appointment only; to get started, please complete the adoption application. To learn more about this dog, please contact us at [email protected] or 215-298-9680 ext. 16.
