Northstar Pet Rescue

In many areas of the country, especially in the South, the situation for animals is desperate: Chained outside and starving, homeless and running loose, or just simply no longer wanted and abandoned in an overburdened and underfunded facility that can’t possibly take another. For these animals, there is not much hope…except to look in the night sky for the North Star, their only way out. We are a group of passionate volunteers committed to saving these innocent dogs and finding them a new forever home. NorthStar Pet Rescue was founded in 2017, and although we might be a relatively new name among New Jersey animal rescues, you may recognize some of us from the work we’ve done volunteering with other rescues to help animals over the past decade. We are 100% dedicated to operating in an safe, transparent, and ethical manner and to ensuring the best veterinary practices are followed with regards to the care and transport of our animals. NorthStar Pet Rescue is IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN: 81-5348036).

Meet Scrappie & Sofie NJ - Bonded Pair

This bonded pair ended up at a local shelter when their owner entered the hospital and wasn't expected to recover. Sweet and adorable Scrappie is a 12-year-old Cairn Terrier boy (he weighs 30 pounds) and Sofie is an 8-year-old Chihuahua mix named who is a little more than "pleasingly plump" at 33 pounds. We are Sofie and Scrappie, a "bonded pair" of dogs adopted from North Ocean County Animal facility and recently returned when their owner was no longer able to care for them due to his medical condition. Sofie is a 9-year-old cute, adorable, chubby Chihuahua mix and her foster is currently working with her to lose some weight. Scrappie is a 12-year-old Cairn Terrier mix with a personality of his own. Both dogs are friendly, enjoy being petted and will seek attention. Scrappie is vocal and will whimper to be petted while Sofie very nonchalantly nuzzles herself into the center of attention. Sofie has had a few accidents in the house but she has only been with her foster a few days and the foster is still getting used to her schedule. Besides the routine potty schedule, both have come to their foster on a few occasions to be let out. They have been around other dogs and cats in the past and currently live with two other dogs and a cat with no issues. Both dogs are very easy-going and enjoy hanging out with the group. They are friendly and enjoy greeting visitors to the house. Both dogs are also good on leash, easy to handle and would make a great addition to any home.  Scrappie, although he's older than Sofie, is more playful than she is - still lots of pep in this boy's step! They both know some basic commands like Sit, Come, Stay, Down & Shake. Scrappie was not a fan of all the rain we recently had - you can see a photo where he is hiding under a pink blanket because he did NOT want to go out in that wet weather! We feel that they would make good pets for just about any home. They will only be adopted into a home together as they have lived together for many years & are dependent on each other. If you feel like you would like to bring Scrappie and Sofie into your home, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and ask for them by name, SCRAPPIE & SOFIE NJ - BONDED PAIR.

Adoption Process
Potential adopters will submit an adoption application. The adopters information will be screened including veterinary and personal references. After the first round of screening they will get the chance to meet the pet. If it is a good match, as deemed by NSPR volunteers, the adopter will complete an adoption contract and pay the fee of 375.00. All animals will be spayed/neutered and fully vetted prior to adoption. The only exception would be small puppies in which case the adopter will submit an additional deposit refundable upon proof of spay/neuter. In the event an animal is no longer wanted, the adoption contract will stipulate that the animal always gets returned to us, and is never sold, given away, or surrendered to another rescue or shelter.

Look for other dogs for adoption!
