Meet Cami

Cami is a 6-year-old, 30 lb., miniature Dachshund. She is extremely overweight and on the taller and longer side for a miniature Dachshund even at a normal weight. Cami is on a diet to reduce her weight and that has been going well. She was 35 lbs. when coming into foster care in Oklahoma as an owner surrender when her owner passed away. Cami should be 25 lbs. or under to be healthy and ease the burden on her back. She loves people but can be a bit shy when meeting new people. She is house trained but has had a few accidents in her foster home since coming from Oklahoma. When she is on a good schedule she has no accidents. Cami is kennel trained.  She doesn't have a lot of experience on a leash so will need some work on going for leash walks. She is free roam on an acreage in her foster home and sticks around the house for the most part. She doesn't like being outside without her people even when other dogs are with her. She is doing well with the dogs in her foster home, big and small. She didn't associate with them too much at first, but she has started to open up and play with them at times. She would be a good single dog or would do well with another dog. She has had no experience with cats but likely would do well with slow introductions and monitoring. Cami is pretty anxious on car rides so probably wouldn't make a good riding buddy. She has not been introduced to children in her foster home, but she would likely do well with older children that she could snuggle with on the couch. Cami is a sweetheart, energetic, bundle of love! She needs a family that is on a good schedule, has a fairly calm environment, and can continue helping her with her weight lose journey. She is a beggar and is always ready to eat or have a snack and she pulls at the heartstrings when asking for a morsel from you. Her family will need to be able to resist the temptation to give in to her begging.  If you are interested in meeting Cami, please complete an online application at https://hopeanimalrescueofiowa.duplie.com/forms/196/dog-application Adoption fee is $250 which includes spay/neuter, microchip, and age appropriate vaccines.
