Adopt-A-Stray

We are a few dedicated individuals who have formed Adopt-A-Stray in order to save many adoptable pets that would otherwise be euthanized in the shelters in our area. We routinely pull dogs and cats from the euthanasia list, as well as take in strays and owner surrenders as space allows.

Meet Betty

Betty Please share this “fun size” pup who has so many great qualities! HER STORY- An elderly person had got Betty from a backyard breeder situation when she was a puppy. They decided Betty was too much for an older person, and put her for free on Facebook. Free puppies is never a good thing, so we stepped in and took her before she ended up in a bad situation or bounced from home to home. BREED- We were told that Betty's dad is a Mountain Feist/American Coonhound mix and her mom is an Australian Shepherd. AGE-estimated DOB 8/18/24 making her almost 9 months old. SIZE-Betty is only about 25 pounds. I do not think she is going to get much bigger. She may fill out a little but that's about it. 25 pounds is a perfect size! She is house trained and crate trained!! She LOVES other dogs!! She is fostered with other dogs of various sizes, including an XL dog, and she’s great with all of them. She has not been around cats. ENERGY/PERSONALITY- Betty is an energetic pup. She loves to play with toys and loves to play fetch, though she doesn’t always bring it back. She loves to play with other dogs. A fenced yard will likely be best for her due to her energy and lack of leash skills and recall, but this can be negotiable depending on the situation. RIDES- Her owner had not taken her anywhere since she got her as a puppy. Due to this, riding in the car is a new thing for Betty. She rides pretty good (stays put for the most part, doesn't jump around) but does get nervous and drools. She’s been in her foster home for just under 3 weeks and has already gotten a lot more comfortable in the car. Her owner had not put a collar on her or a leash, ever. She was very nervous when I first put a collar on her but she is much more used to it now. She needs to work on leash walking. She gets nervous on the leash but we haven’t had much time to work on leash walking. KIDS- I have not had her around little kids. She does jump and occasionally nips (out of play) when she gets excited or thinks there is something in my hand that she wants (food, toys). She is not doing this aggressively in any way, she's just excited and it's probably a little bit of the Australian Shepherd in her. She did meet some 13 year old kids and was good with them. She seems to love people! She is food motivated! She is learning "sit" and we are working on not jumping which she is getting better with. She loves people and has the adorable wiggle but and tail wag when her people get home from work. She is a really cool dog! She could likely do some agility work if someone had the time to work w/ her on it. Her owner had not done any vetting-no shots, nothing. So, we're getting her fully vetted and then she'll be ready for adoption. She will be spayed at the beginning of June and then she'll be good to go! We hope to have a home ready and waiting for her! I have many videos of this girl too. Facebook won’t let us post pics and videos together. Message us and we’ll send you the videos!
